Officer Peter Grignon was shot and killed after responding to a hit & run call in the 2600 block of Accasia Drive.

The incident occured at approximately 6:30 am when Officer Grignon approached 2 suspects after finding the suspect vehicle approximately 2 blocks from scene of the call.

A witness at the scene stated she heard the officer shout "Don't Shoot" and then heard 3 shots.

The suspect, Travis Ballard, was a 17 year old juvenile with an extensive history of criminal activity and mental problems.

Officer Grignon was rushed to University Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to the face and neck area. Surgeons worked hard to save the officer, but he succumbed to his wounds at approximately 9:30 am.

Officer Grignon was 27 years old and recently married. He had been with the Louisville Metro Police Department for only 2 years.
