"Behind my badge is a heart like yours. I bleed, I think, I love, and yes I can be killed. And although I am but one man, I have thousands of brothers and sisters who are the same as me. They will lay down their lives for me, and I them. We stand watch together."

Officer Nick Rodman - EOW 3/29/17

Police Officer Nick Rodman succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicle crash at the intersection of a 26th Street and Duncan Street during a vehicle pursuit.
Other officers were pursuing a suspect who had been involved in a domestic violence incident in which shots were fired. Other officers were able to free Officer Rodman from the burning patrol car and transported him to a local hospital. He succumbed to his injuries the following afternoon.
The subject being pursued was apprehended and charged with murder, assault, wanton endangerment, as well as additional charges.
Officer Rodman had served with the Louisville Metro Police Department for three years. He is survived by his wife, son, and newborn daughter.
Officer Peter Grignon - EOW 3/23/05

Officer Peter Grignon was shot and killed while investigating an incident in which a car was seen driving through a homeowner's yard on Accasia Drive.
Officer Grignon responded to the scene at approximately 0630 hours. After a short search, he located the suspected vehicle burning nearby. Moments later, he was confronted by two subjects and shot twice in the head and neck. One of the suspects then committed suicide. The second suspect was taken into custody.
He was transported to University Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds about two hours later.
Officer Grignon had served with the Louisville Metro Police Department for 2 years, and was assigned to the 2nd Division. He is survived by his wife and parents.
Detective Deidre Mengedoht was killed when her patrol car was struck by an impaired driver while conducting a traffic stop on I-64, between 4th Street and 6th Street, in downtown Louisville just after 2:00 pm.
Her vehicle was stopped in the right lane with its emergency equipment activated when it was struck from behind by a Metropolitan Sewer District tractor-trailer. The patrol car was pushed into the vehicle she had stopped and became engulfed in flames with Detective Mengedoht trapped inside.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was charged with driving under the influence and murder of a law enforcement officer.
Detective Mengedoght had served with the Louisville Metro Police Department for seven years. She is survived by a young son.
